well yesterday after returning from del rio for a doctor visit i come home to my house having no power, turns out there is a power outage in the neighborhood were i live. my water temp is at around 75 when i get home and it was pretty hot in my room so i didnt think the temp would go down much. boy was i wrong two hours later it was at 72 and by the time it got dark it was at 69. so i tried filling ziploc bags with hot water and letting em float on top. that kept it at 69 and didnt let it go down but as soon as i went to sleep at around three in the morning it just plummented. to make things worse in the morning the light wasnt fixed and not till one did they fix the problem. right now my crocea clam has lost most of its color and slowly starting to get some of the blue back, my brain is looking fine and my frogspawn is slowly getting back to regular size. i basically had to thaw out my fire fish my clown and my two pepper mint shrimps. lesson learned even though u dont think it will happen to u it will, right now im in the market for a small generator.

I lost power last year when we had the ice storm in San Antonio, 28' outside and it got down in the 40's inside. By the time the power came back on my larger tanks were in the mid 60's, but my seahorse fry tank was down in the low 50's (the fry were just laying on the bottom of the tank). After a gradual rewarming, everybody was fine. I know several other people that had the same problem and did not loose any of their critters. Saltwater fish and inverts are incredibly tough. Best of luck. I am sure they will be just fine.

I have an outage in my neighborhood yesterday from 1-5, and my tanks got down to 72. Not as scary, but the corals weren't liking it. I was talking with Troy Valentine yesterday he advised that I should get a battery backup for at least the powerheads. I have at least one at work I will be bringing home.
