I was chuckling today...it's funny what we, in this hobby, get excited about....

I'm in the military at work at an air station. We treat the water to wash the planes...for corrosion prevention and such. Today I asked the maintenance guy to give me a tour of the water shed.

It's probably a 30' X 15' building...designed completely with water purification in mind. It can produce 9000 gallons of RO/DI per day!!! The set-up is truly amazing. I need to take a few pics...everything is just super sized. He said when they replace the RO membranes it costs well over $2K. They even have meters up on the wall displaying TDS, which was 7ppm, and some # that I couldn't interpret about a chlorine reading...it was reading like 6000 units of something or other.

Best part though...the station lets us use this for personal stuff. We have out own tap off from the main system to wash our cars or ***fill up water jugs*** I know where I'll be getting my water from now on.

Just thought I'd share.

Nice to see tax payer money going towards washing cars :hypnotyized:

Trust me Chris...the whole amount used to rinse off a car is nearly irrelevant when considering the main purpose of this system. Don't want to be painting a bad picture here...we are very good stewards of the tax payers' (one of which is myself) money.

I really just wanted to comment on the sheer magnitude of the system. It's pretty cool.

Eh, I won't argue with you even though there are plenty of arguements to be made for that excuse.

Anyway, as our RO/DI systems create waste water, I wonder if a super system like that also creates waste water or if it is somehow more efficient? I'd be curious how much "bad" water that system puts out and what becomes of it. With a capacity of 9000gpd, that would add up to a lot of waste water in a year. Even though it's "waste" water, it's still good for lots of things, like watering landscapes, washing cars, etc. . . . LOL

I would imagine...the cost of those filters and how many they go through...the water that is being used for the washing of the cars, plumbing in base facilities IS the waste water.....I know the government spends crazy money....but don't see them being generous enough to give the base RODI....but that is a unfounded assumption on my end....
