Hydor koralia

I have a Hydor koralia 3 on my 45g tank and it seems like I have to clean it almost every week. Anyone else have a hard time keeping their's clean? I don't know if it's because of the way it's designed with the inlets behind the pump blade, but mine is always sucking in food and junk that sticks to the plastic grill. If the fish rip a piece of seaweed loose during the day, it's guaranteed to get stuck on the Hydor.

i clean mine about once every two months or so. the only thing that sticks to mine is that fine brown algae that seems to only stick to plastic or glass

Ive never cleaned mine, maybe thats why its not working so good? I prefer these over the Hydors...
