I want to make my Rio into a return pump. All I have to do is slide some tubing over the outlet, right? Then connect the tubing to the 2- 90 degree pvc joints to hang on the back of the tank, right?

A return pump for what? Where will it be located - internal to a sump or external? I don't believe Rio's are supposed to be external, but I could be wrong.

The Rio likely doesn't have the head rating to pump from your sump. I wouldn't run a Rio not submerged. They tend to get very hot and then self destruct.

I run a rio 1400 on my oceanic 50 gallon and it's perfect. It's submerged and yes what you are saying about the plumbing is correct that should work fine.

the rio is a 2100. On the back of the box, it tells you how many gph is pushes at different elevations. It seems good. Oh, and I do not care how fast the water is recirculating through the sump. As long as it is recirculating, I will be satisfied.
