what is it used for and how is it incorporated into the system

you inject it into your calcium reactor in order to lower the PH and disolve the reactor media into a usable state for corals

CO2 is used as a part of what's called a calcium reactor. The reactor contains media, usually aragonite. When CO2 is injected at a very slow rate (bubble(s) per minute)into the reactor along with water from the tank, it becomes acidic and breaks down the aragonite which releases calcium into the water. Corals use up calcium so the reactor replenishes it. Trick is to balance that out without messing up the Ph levels as well.
