Please help me ID this good or bad algae or bacteria. Velvet/Purple color, slimy and stringy. Should I remove it or let it propagate?

Thanks!

Looks a bit like Cyanobacteria. It is common in new tanks and could also be a result of low flow in a tank. I don't think it has any adverse effects, but not the nicest thing to look at...You could increase the flow in the tank and rid yourself of this nuisance bacteria or just clean it up when you siphon out water for your water change.

Definately remove it or it will cover a lot. More flow took care of my problem several months back.

Dead spots in water flow also causes this to occur if your tank isn't new.

turn your flow off, and then scrape it off and suck it up with a turkey baster. you dont want that stuff to spread
