The clown gets a little aggressive and scares the flower pot

I've had them host to all sorts of stuff from frog spawn, brains, hammers, torch, galaxia, xenia, mushrooms, to anemones. They typically cause whatever else they host with to die. May try moving the flowerpot to the sump or fuge for a day or two to confuse the clowns.

I once had a panther grouper host to a Gigas clam, the clam died after about 2 weeks of this.

I have a pair of clowns hosting in a hammer coral. They have been there for a few months. Should I be worried about the hammer? I was not concerened before but when you say they cause things to die makes me a little nervous.

Clowns will kill that flowerpot probably. Goniopora are sensitive anyway, let alone with a clown wriggling around and slapping against it. Matty, you should try and move the frogspawn somwewhere harder for the clown to host in it. If you have a good amount of rock, try to get it close to a corner and the surface of the water. That will leave the clown with a small portion to try and host in, if it hasn't already gotten confuzzled over the move. Make sure to do this in an area with acceptable lighting conditions as not to frizzle fry your hammer.

The clown will kill the flower pot, 99% guarantee. I would remove one or the other. Moving for a couple of days won't work, they will eventually go back to it. My wife is successfully keeping 11 Gonioporas but her tank is and will remain clownless. I had one for 2-1/2 yrs and I added a clown and it was dead in two weeks.

Well, My mom has a 38g with 2 perculas, and a flowerpot as well. They have hosted in it for a few months now, and havent killed it. Maybe the parameters help too. Her parameters are perfect and water crystal clear! Maybe thats whats keeping it alive....

Parameters have nothing to do with it. Luck is all. In time, there will be the same results. What happens is the Goni has sharp edges where it protrudes from the skeleton and the steady grinding and moving of the clown grinds the polyps against these edges and destroys these polyps one at a time. Kinda like popping the bubble part of the polyps of zoas kills that polyp. I'm not trying to be the bearer of bad news, just a lot of experience and knowledge and reading. I'm not sure where it was but there is a 32+ page post on RC about gonis and elegances that has given my wife and I oodles of help and that's why she has been so successful.

And to add to that, as I said before, it's not just goni's it's all LPS that this can happen to.

Mike is correct but the goni's are more susceptible because of the leading edge of their skeleton where the polyp comes out of is sharp and the rubbing by the clown cuts the polyps.
