I have to down grade tanks until I get married and move into my own place. So I decided to modify my hex tank to be reef ready. Just what to share what it looked like when I was done. Holes were drilled by forever pets but I constucted every thing else. My plane is to build a mound of rocks in the middle but any suggestions would be great on scapeing a hex.

You can look at mine in the TOTM section and just ask if you have any questions.

When I was puting the rock into the tank I noticed this stuff on one of the rocks. Does anyone know what it is and if it is bad.

Either one get it out if you can. If it's caulerpa it will be branching with a vine look and you "may" get a tang to eat it. If it's bubble algae you can try to get a couple of emerald crabs to eat it. Either way keep an eye that id doesn't get out of control, both can quickly.

bubble algae spreads like herpes, i'd pull the rock, scrub it real well, and hope really hard. my girlfriend bought a rock covered in it because "it's so pretty" but it took over swiftly. that was almost a year ago and there are still outbreaks even with 2 emerald crabs in a 29 gallon. i also have some bubble algae muscling in on my acans and they aren't happy about it, but i can't really justify an emerald in my 2.5 gallon.i guess manual removal will have to suffice
