Is this a necessary part? I dropped my r/o system and the waste water hose broke off at this end. It connects to the white block which is supposed to be the auto shut off. Where can I get another one if I need it. Also, where do you keep your r/o systems at? I keep mine outside on the porch so that the waste water can be used on the lawn. I am getting algae inside the first chamber which is the carbon.

I keep mine on the porch but inside of an old 100 gallon tank stand ( I have another for sale $25.00) out of the light and freezing weather. it has been there for 2 yrs and still works great

Looks like a check valve. It's on there to prevent the output water (usually the waste water) from flowing back into the filter if it loses pressure or the shut-off valve closes.

That's actually the flow restrictor - and yes - its a critical part - system won't run without it.

yes that is a very critical part.

i keep my ro/di in a storage room in my garage and ran a 1/4" line thru the attic to the tank for auto top-off
