I got home last night to find that my green britle star lost all of his legs. The weird thing is that they look like they were cut off with about and inch left. He is still alive but for how long I don't know. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen.

In the wild (on reefs), we've seen that just about any fish - especially damsels - will rapidly eat a brittle star. When you pick up rocks in shallow beach areas, there's always a brittle star or 2 underneath. If you drop the star more than a few inches above the bottom, it quickly becomes fish food. They HAVE to places to hide completely. If arms stick out...

He has been in my tank with the same fish since I started my tank and I have never seen any of my fish mess with him. The only fish I have in my tank is 3 green chromis 1 yellow tang, 1 coarl beauty angel. a pair of clown fish. sand sifting goby, snails and hermit crabs.

Something in there has developed a taste for it. The star wont just loose its legs. If I had to pick I would say the Coral beauty Angel out of the bunch.
