I am thinking about going down to galvaston, and maybe gather a hermit crab or 2. I have a fowler tank. Is this a dumb idea? What do yall think?

you could possibly introduce a problem but then again you might not. Hard to say, just make sure your QT anything before you put it in your DT.

ok. How would you recommend quarantining it?

Those hermits from the coast can take a fish down....and they get massive.

A little late on this thread, I know, but I'd also be a little wary putting anything brought back from Galveston in my tanks... it's not known as being the cleanest beach on the gulf!

I think the safest place would probably be Port Aransas. South Padre isn't bad either though, but take into cinsideration what BigBird said... those things can do some damage on a fish and they get HUGE! I'd stick to the good old Red/blue legged ones from LFS if you're on a budget. If not, Scarlets and Halloweens are, in my opinion, the better reef inhabitants.

ok, that is a good idea. Thank you. I don't think I want to go down there and pick them up anymore, but I think this thread can be a good learning experience for anybody, even though everybody probably already knows all this info haah.

Maastards go to Port A at least once a year and bring back shrimp, gobies, triggers etc.... It a fun trip; simply have to make sure you are puttng in something safe.

Know idea but people do. The juvies like to hang out near the jetties so if you throw out a cast net you will catch something.
