I have a 55 gal. and was thinking about getting a skimmer but don't know where to chose from. I have my mind set on the bak pak skimmer but not to sure if a good choice. i have heard some good and bad about a couple of them like the prizm skimmer that leaks after 6 months and the sea clone doen't really skim all to well so any opinions and suggestions would be appreciated. i guess let me know if any of yall have problems with some or prefer a certin one.

I have a sea clone (rated for a 100 gallon) on my 55 gallon, and the collection cup on it gets very very nasty. In my opinion, it skims very well, but only if the pump is taken apart and cleaned often, because it tends to slow down the skimming action when it is dirty.(probably like any other skimmer pump) Otherwise, your just wasting electricity. There are O-Rings at every joint, and one of the joints leaks on mine for the first day after cleaning it, but it stops because the salt-creep clogs it up, so its all good haha. That's what I have to say about the SeaClone.

Coralife Super Skimmer 65g. B&B Aquatics has them in stock. It should be a whole lot better than a Bak Pak.

There are as many different skimmers as there are opinions about them,, if your looking for bang for your buck, octopus and Euroreef are both good

For the money, an AquaC Remora Pro with upgrade to Mag5 will skim circles around a backpack.

I second the EuroReef, but if you are set on getting a HOB skimmer make sure to KEEP IT CLEAN to get optimum efficiency from it. The Red Sea Prizms are decent, and Coralife Super Skimmers are awesome entry-level skimmers, but for the dollar, EuroReefs are hard to beat.

I've got a Aqua C Remora with a MJ1200 running on my 45g. I"m disappointed with it, but maybe I need to upgrade pumps.

Cap'n I had that same set up on a 20g and traded it away because I found it that worthless. Maybe somehow you ended up getting my old one from Ross?
