Which store in the San Antonio area sells premixed/natural sea water? What do they charge? How big are the containers. Thanks!

Wow.
I never thought most would. Its not that I want to go with natural, its that I thought that may be more available. How much do most places charge? For say 5 gallon bottles. How much per gallon?

Texasfootball - They are talking about saltwater that has been created using a salt mix (usually Instant Ocean or Oceanic brand) and RO/DI water by the store. Stores around here don't sell water that comes straight from the ocean. Even if they did I don't think you would want any of it as there is too high a risk of getting water with contaminants in it.

Usually the stores sell it by the gallon so you can buy as much as you want. You have to provide your own container although some stores do sell empty jugs. Price varies by store so it's best if you call around to your local stores and ask.

PetCo type places sell a brand called "Natural SeaWater". I think that's what is being referred to. There is a difference between pre mixed and natural. The natural seems to be stocked in 2.5g containers for about $7 each. The company swears the water is from a desalinization plant about a mile out from shore. They use the pipe to suck in seawater and transport it to public aquariums and such. They also skim it, UV it, sterilize it etc... Most shops sell premix for about $1 a gallon.

Texas Tropical and Marine off Vance Jackson and 410 sells 5 gallon buckets. You may also bring your own buckets.

Prices: This is not a quote! It's $1 a gallon for Saltwater and $0.25 for freshwater. You can buy their 5 gal jugs for like $7 or $8 I think (it's been awhile since I purchased the jugs). Just drop them off when ever you need to do a water change and they have many ready and waiting so you just swap yours out with pre-mixed saltwater or freshwater.

I purchased two jugs and drop them off once a week to do a 10% water change in my 120gal.

Hope that helps.

The price of water will really add up. I would invest in a nice RO/DI unit and make your own!!!!

I agree. Yesterday I bought a 125g nylon tank to hold RO/DI water at the ready.

Since I have a 22g nano, I usually buy the 5g "Boxes" of Saltwater at Petco, I think they are $11, but I got a few for $8ea a few weeks ago on special. It is really convenient for me since I do 2 or 3 gallons at a time, but if/when I upgrade I will just use a salt mix with RO/DI since the cost will be more than the convenience factor of it.

Recently there was a guy selling 1 gallon bottles of salt water on Ebay. Supposedly it was taken from off shore, I think from the Gulf. Can't remember how much he wanted for it, but seemed like a pretty good scam to me.
