View Full Version : reef "safe" anemone?

I have a little clown fish and right now he hangs out with a liitle bit of xenia. I would like to get him a proper host, but not sure it can be done. Is there such a thing as a reef "safe" anemone that I could add to my already set up biocube 14, or am I just asking for trouble?

Bubble tips are the best for clowns and they are reef safe.

I don't think any to me is reef safe bc they will attack alot of things. I would recommend a small bubble coral will do the job as a perfect host that doesn't travel!

Bubble tips are a good choice for hosting. I think a 14g might be to small or may not have sufficient lighting. You can try the LPS method but keep in mind that clowns can be very rough, killing anemones or corals they host in. My maroons would tear apart a bubble tip in less than a week.

I have 2 RBTAs in my daughter's 12g nano, with a couple of false percs. One is for someone else...

I have a BUNCH of RBTAs in my big tank, and they are NOT really reef-safe. They will sting and kill corals around them - and they are just about impossible to move/remove. I have 3 I've been trying to move, with no luck - their feet are buried deep in the rock.

I would have to agree that most anemone are not reef safe. Having one currently in the Biocube, I have seen firsthand how unsafe they are. I have had to rearrange my coral due to them being stung very badly by my GBTA. I got lucky that it finally settled down but when it spreads out it still gets very close to my corals and stings a few. Not to discourage you from getting one as my clown is VERY happy with hers, just something to consider before your purchase.

That is what thought. I had very nice bubble coral, but clown was too rough and now it is just a skeleton.
