brittle star

I have a brittle star that I have had for 2 yrs...now that he was moved to a smaller tank it got a small yellow spot on it....within a couple of hours it looks like half of its body is eaten away, but it is still alive and moving around. What could this be and what should I do?

maybe stress related? or water quality from the larger tank was better than the smaller one?

It looked as though something was eating it...like a flesh eating disease...but I checked on it again and there are 3 of them now.
