Some of you have seen my BC29 thread. Im trying to work on the fish list. Im most likely going to have a clown pair; either true percs or false. I want a clown goby but have heard they are not the easiest fish to feed, is this true? If so does anyone have any suggestions on another small colorful goby that readily eats? Im also thinking of a firefish or a 6 line wrasse. Anyone have any thoughts on the Goby question??
Thanks
Ray

IME, the yellow clown gobies are not that difficult. I've had a little less luck with the green clown gobies and no luck with the black or panda clown gobies.
Some other options...
This one is not all that colorful but a group of them would be entertaining to watch.

And a pair of these might be a good alternative to the clown gobies.

Cool thanks Richard, I was thinking of the yellow clown. Like you mentioned; ive heard they are the easiest and most forgiving. And those Rusty Gobies look interesting as well.

whatever you do dont get a sand sifting one. find my orange diamondback thread for some hilarity at my expense.
my tank looked like a HUGE sandstorm 24x7, overflowed my skimmer, etc . . .

Good advice, My red leg hermits kick up enough sand already. I dont need a fish making it worse.

catalina gobies are beutifull fish, but not well suited to a reef enviroment, they like cold water. have you ever been to the pacific off cali? it's pretty chilly

blueboy thats really the only thing holding me back from getting one. From what ive read they prefer 55-65 and no warmer that 72. My tank stays 74-76 all day long so i will not get a catalina althou they are a nice looking specimen.

Clown gobies CAN be difficult to get to eat/thrive at first. Both of mine - a yellow and a HUGE citron - attack me for food. But, they aren't the first ones I owned... Also note that these gobies may NOT be completely "reef safe". They love to rest on stony corals, and their secretions WILL kill off a spot where they regularly sit.

Very Good to know bstreep. My tank will be Softies and LPS but later on i may upgrade my light to a 150 MH to go to Stoney/Hard corals.

My yellow Clown Goby loves to eat the tiny red balls called Cyclopeze. Put a little of that in the tank, and he goes nuts for it. I get it frozen at Texas Tropical. Some mushrooms and montipora like cyclopeze too.

I ended up purchasing a yellow clown goby a couple of weeks ago and hes been great. Eats very well and from what ive been told is a extremely bold clown goby. He is always out sitting in the open on my shrooms; rarely hiding in the rock work. He always looks like he is looking at me :)

Get one of these:

I had 2 and they were awesome. They dig holes under the rocks and sit out front waiting for food. May get along with a shrimp, but I'm not sure. I do know I saw them flirting now and then. They do great in pairs or more.

Live Aquaria added a nano section, although it may have been there before. Good ideas for selection!

You can't go wrong with firefish! I have 2 red and 2 purple, plus a 6 line. They all get along well. In addition to that, 1 foxface, 2 ocellaris clows, royal gramma, and lawnmower blenny, and 2 neon gobies. Everyone gets along well!

Luckily my citron goby chills on powerheads, live rock, and the mag float or I'd be mad at him for killing expensive stuff... he'll attack frozen mysis the second they're introduced as he comes flying over from any spot in the tank and I've even seen him from a cave outside line of site and immediately rush the surface for shrimp.

Sorry, I was digging around for something to make a first post about. I don't have pics of my tank to post yet, but I should later tonight.

Too bad they say it fights with its own kind. I was just about to order a whole school of them at that bargain price!
