I have Rio 1400 in my tank. I used to use it for a skimmer, but decided to try it in the tank.

Is it me, or is there more flow due to the suction intake rather than the output? I don't know if that's a bad thing or not, it just seems strange to me. Do all power heads/pumps work this way and I've never noticed?

It should be equal, or that powerhead is on its way out.

Rio powerheads have really bad reviews. I know of a few busting inside the tank..messing it up.

I know Rio pumps and powerheads used to get bad reviews due to bad seals and water penetrating the electrical area. I believe they have fixed these problems and the incidents have decreased immensely.

Yeah, bad sealing was a huge problem with Rios..

Little Rio's are/were pretty bad quality. When I first got in the hobby over 2 years ago, I bought 2 and they both shorted out in less than 2 weeks ;)

But on the flip side, I haven't had any problems with their larger pumps. I've had a 2100 pump that has basically run nonstop for 2 years, in various setups. Its STILL running great in my live rock curing tub :) I think those larger pumps they make are built nicely, and although they do not perform as well as a MAG pump, they still do work good for utility purposes.

On a side note, the only time I did think the pump died was yesterday. I took it apart and cleaned it only to find out the **** extension cord was unplugged the whole time! :lol

Mr. Cool, It may be you feel the higher pressure at the intake but the volume out is the same as the volume in. The pressure out may be diffused, but it is the same volume.

Is the intake screened to help diffuse the input, therefore helping to prevent things from being sucked against the intake area?

There are slots cut into the plastic to help diffuse the intake. I'm just lookig at the flow of water in the tank. Seems like my Xenia and anemone are "flowing" toward the pump rather than away from it.
