How long with this live after tearing down a tank?
I finally got my new tank up and just about running. My old one has TONS of nice, purple coraline algae growing on the back walls. I drained the tank today, and it's been sitting on my back porch all day. Is it dead now, or will the spores stay alive longer?
If anyone wants some to give it a try and see if it will seed some liverock, it just flakes right off the tank in pretty good size chips. Let me know if you're interested.

I've had my tank running for about two weeks with live sand and agrocrete. Do you think it would work on my rock even though it is not live? I have been feeding the tank ven though it only has a lonely crab in there and a little live rock I brought from Can Cun. I don't have lighting yet they will be installed next week. Could I have some of those flakes?

spores are probably alive, algae is obviously dead.
Alma, you might want to consider getting some indo-pacific live rock, the species diversity in that part of the world (I doubt you could have gotten enough liverock past customs, and in a good state of being) to seed the tank properly. (I could be wrong of course!) ;)
anyhow, if you really want to seed your tank w/ life you need to hit up some of the members w/ really established tanks for some live sand/rubble from their tanks, or make an order for some garf grunge.

Thank you Mr Cool & Ram Puppy,
You are right, you can't get much past through customs. It was about half a pound. I ordered the agrocrete from GARF, and will call them for the Grunge. My Daughter is begging for some life in that tank...this project is teaching patience to my whole family.
