I was playing around with the new camera. Let me know what you think, or what I can do better. Any comments taken as I have no clue what I am doing.

I take it you like it Jim, it belongs to the wife. We have about 5 different orchids in the house. That is her hobby

Looking good for your first pics with it. What camera did you end up with? How does the colors look as compared to what your eye sees? If it's pretty good then your auto white balance is doing a pretty decent job of figuring it out. Also a long read but their is a sticky in the photography forum that Mark from CB Pets and Brian (Greenmako) put together that is very good information.

Anthony, I believe they are blue kiss. If Sean(cpreefguy) sees the pic he can give you a positive i.d.
You will be first in line when they grow out some more.

Thanks Cliff, I went with the Sony dsc-h2. I got a sweet deal on the camera and accessories due to a mix up by Best Buy. I like it so far. As far as the tanks shots- they were literally the first pics with the camera without reading any instructions. They colors are pretty close so the white balance is working well. It seemed like the lower corals came out better than the top shots. I guess I need to factor in the lights of the tank. I read about 1/5 of the thread you linked to- I need to read a little at a time because my attention span and retention is shorter as I get older.

all you need to know is how to reset your camera to factory defaults, that way you can jack it allllll up and still be ok. Have fun playing! You maayyyyyyyyyy wanna invest in a tripod, and use a timer, it works really good.

i suggest using the macro setting for pictures so close up to the subject. This is usually a flower icon on the camera. try holding down the shutter button slightly to autofocus and move back and forth slightly to see where the lens focuses best. then depress the shutter completely.
