I've been complaining about threaded bulkheads cracking since I set my tank up. People tell me that never happens. I originally bought, and continued buying 2 more times, the type that are threaded on both ends. After about 2-5 weeks the seem would crack. I switched to the slip/glue kind and never had another problem.

Ah but in the end, it's a small price to pay for not having water all over the floor. Buy a union or compression fitting.

I've used many threaded bulkheads on the tanks and sumps I've built and only had 1 crack before. It was the nut that cracked while tightening it. Our brains tell us to tighten them until we can't tighten it any more, but as they are plastic they can only take so much before something has to give. Just have to be careful not to overtighten them.

Go to Aquarium Designs on 281 and Brook Hollow. Tell Jason that Erick sent you. He has a bunch of bulkheads on the wall, and I'm sure he has one to fit your needs!

so i ordered two of the same kind from Marine Depot and when i was installing the first one it cracked right up the side when i was screwing in the 3/4" fitting,, i know your thinking 'he should not tighten it that tight', but i only had it in about half way and it was not binding.. so the system is shut down and luckily I had ordered two so i put the second one on and it worked fine so i am back up to full speed and i sent Marine Depot an email asking them if i should be worried about two of these bulkheads cracking in the same place.
