Who has the coralife super skimmer 220. Rated up to 220 gallons. I have it set up as a in-sump skimmer bc it won't fit in the back of my tank. Freaking huge with a 100 oz collection cup. I read alot that it takes a little extra time for in-sump skimmer to get going. Why is it that way? I still have my prism pro on top and it yanks out dark green and brown gunk. It requires cleaning every 5 days, it has a 40oz collection cup. <-- Cleaning it that much started to tweak at my nerves so I went after the larger skimmer with a huge collection cup.

To get back to my question , Why does insump skimmer tank a little extra time to get going. when the hang on skimmer yanks out asap?

What happened to the Prizm Pro that could handle 300g? Man you bit our heads off over that one and NOW you go out and get a better skimmer?

It takes a few days to a week for a new skimmer to 'bed in'. All that wonderful slime that builds up in the skimmer column is part of what it is skimming. In sump skimmers are usually larger so it takes longer for them to get going and you have to factor in you bio load.

He didn't say 'better skimmer', just bigger collection cup. :)

I'm using both skimmer lol, till the coralife is running good, then I'm putting it on my 55 gallon frag tank that will have 5 frogspawns,5 hammers,10 different types of zoos, 5 different type of palys, bunch of different zoos, shrooms, xenia, fill it all up so the bioload is going to be high. , going no live rock rubble for the bottom. Will be running 4 x 96 watt pcs so the wattage per gallon 8watt more than enought to grow like crazy!

Well the Skimmer this morning already had some gunk in it, but I'm going to tune it down a bit bc I think I'm may be over skimming for the time being. What do ya think? I guess if there isn't alot of bubble white bubble in the collection cup and the gunk is dark I 'm not really over skimming right?

Skim milk is clear. You have to shake it to mix the little bit of fat back into all that water. You shouldn't be able to see through whole milk.

I got a CSS 220 I also have a 125. The 220 is still breaking in but ive had the 125 for a while now. There good skimmers with great customer service! I use mine as HOB on my sump and i only have 2 fish in the tank right now (firefish goby, Coral beauty Angelfish) so i run the skimmers wet. I find that if you run them dry you need to clean the neck more often.

I have the water level set to the curve of the clear neck.

This is all the foam the 220 will make on my tank with the water level at the red nut. If i leave it like that the foam will eventually build but id rather get more wet than less dry.

125 all foam. They both have fishing line mods but the 125 has a better weave as you can tell!
