How do I know what is the "correct" amount of flow for my 14? It has just the stock set up but I did add the Hydor Flow. There is more flow, but seems to be at a lower rate. Do I just add a power head, or upgrade the stock one I have?

if you want to upgrade your pump there will be more flow but if your concerned about humming or buzzing noises i recomend you stay with stock I tried the MJ 900 it has better flow but more noise Im only saying this because my tank is in my bedroom. I also added the hydor it maybe have slightly less flow but it still has enough flow for the 14 gal for sure.

This tank is not near the bedrooms, so noise is not a huge issue for me. So the MJ900 can just be swapped out? It will fit down in there where the current pump sits?

The MJ900 is a direct swap. I would check out nano-reef.com. There are many people there that have done exactly what you plan. I have an aquapod12 with a MJ900 and a small rio on the opposite side and the flow is excellent. I had a Hydorflow, but it took it off and just split the flow in two. I like it better. The Hydorflow seemed to lessen the overall amount of flow in the tank. I am pretty sure a MJ1200 would fit also if you wanted even more flow. The amount of flow really depends on what you want to keep.

should fit right in but if you plan to keep the hydor u may want to try the 1200 but then you start to have heat concerns from the pump

So how does the pump come out of a 14g biocube? I got mine used and there's no papework to go with it.

Oceanic 14. The pump is connected to a rigid tube leading up to an elbow that seems to be molded and part of the back wall. I don't see where anything separates. No clamps, clips or anything else that would indicate it comes apart.

Okay, so I swapped them out. I wound up putting the MJ900 "upside down" in order to keep the input as low as possible. Would this cause any problems?
