ok. I set up a 110 oceanic. Basically 5ft long, 16-18" wide and 2ft tall. I havent really measured it.

I plan to keep all types of corals from softies to sps like Acros. Heres the deal. It's a reef ready tank and the overflows let the water freefall for 2ft then it hits the bottom of the overflow. VERY loud. So I am keeping the glass tops on it right now to keep my wife happy.

What kind of lights would or even could work with the glass tops on the tank? I currently will have 2 250MH for it and want to add some vho to it. I dont think I can leave the tops on and have it work. Heck the halides might be too hot I think for the glass. How about PC lighting? Anything strong enough?

I might also see if I can put in extension tubes that will raise the water level in the overflows and try to quiet it down some. This way I dont need the tops.

You could make a durso standpipe for the noise.

Eliminate the glass tops to help with heat loss and light penetration.

hey search for diy standpipe and put that on there it will raise the level of the H20 in the overflows and silence them then remove the glass tops they will reflect alot of your light

Ahhh. Those standpipes work great. Pretty dang quiet. The glass tops are now off except for the ones holding the temporary light strips.
