what do you guys think about putting a 250 watt de halide over an 18 gallon tank?...too much?

250w over an 18g is extreme, you woudl be able to keep sps and clams anywhere in the tank. It may not be great for lowerlight corals like mushrooms.

Just monitor the temp of the tank and make sure it does not get too hot.
