i have a 55 gallon with a 75 gallon overflow filter with sponge and wutnot in their. I use TLC, amquel+, and yet my nitrates and nitrites are still high my ph is great my amonia is next to nothing my nitrite is at 1.0 and my nitrate is at 20. I have 2 green chromis and a small snowflake as well as a princess damsil sum shrimp and hermit crabs and soon to be a sand snail for my algae.
Now to the question, can anyone tel me how to help get my nitrate and nitrite lowered. Some say use algone but im not sure . HELP PLEASE!!!!

Are you having algae problems?? If so you may want to consider removing the sponge in the overflow box. Depending on how much you feed uneaten food may get trapped in there and may cause your nitrates to rise thus adding more nutrients for the algae to thrive on.

How long has this been set up? What do you feed and how often? How often do you change that sponge? Rinse it? How did you cycle the tank?

how long has the tank been set up, how much live rock do you have, all eels are nitrate factories.

simple,, you don't have enough biological and mechanical filtration... at the very least that eel should come out until you are finished cycling,,, the undersized filtration along with all those fish are prolonging the cycle time.. and you did not mention a skimmer,, if your going to keep that eel and thats all the filtration you have , you are going to need a good skimmer

You state your ammonia is next to nothing so for arguements sake that means you are registering some ammonia. You also are registering some nitrite.

It is my opinion that either your tank is not fully cycled yet or you added to much to soon as far as livestock goes.

It is my suggestion that you do a 100% water change to immediately reduce these amount and protect your animals. A 100% water change is when you change the entire volume of your tank but not all at once. I would suggest you change 12-14 gallons of water 4 times. In order for this method to be affective you must do the water changes immediately in succession.

EDIT: Make sure that your water used for the water change is identicle with the water in your tank. (i.e. temperature and salinity)

Let us know how everything works out! :)

OK RX7... I'm gonna be the butthole here.... You have made 2 or 3 other threads asking the same thing over the last few days. You have been given help by different people in all of them.
I understand you are new to the hobby and I (and I'm sure the rest of us) welcome you to it. As you see we do not think your tank has completed it's cycle (as We stated in your other post). And again people are asking how long has it been set up? See the connection, it takes time for your tank to balance out.
My suggestion would be to either start a new thread with all your tank info (we love details) or stick with one and add all the details to it.
If your tank is new your Ammonia, NitrITE, and NitrATE, will all go though a roller coaster ride before settling out. We don't know where you got the tank or who gave you the advice that it was ready for fish. You are having these problems with your tank and yet you are looking to put more in there (buying green star polyps) before it's fixed will not help your problem (looking for more rock will).
If you want help and it seems you do let us help you. Tell us what is going on and we will give you some advice then tell us the results not start screaming that you need help again. Once we see the effect our advice has we can give you more from there; we'll get you going but as I'm sure you've heard nothing good happens fast.

As for advice did you get more live rock? Was it cured? Your levels are better than last time so things are getting better. A few more water changes, just watch the nitrITE as that is harmfull to your livestock, the foam maybe part of your nitrATE problem. And you might want to re think your feeling on charcoal.
Good Luck

I hope I didn't scare you away. Was not my intention. I just don't want him to go in different directions on the same problem and make it worse.
