I was noticing my yellow tang today, on it's right eye it appears to have a bubble on it,(No not an eyelid LOL) is this some kind of eye disease and will it contaminate my tank? and what would be a cure. The other fish are fine. (Knock on wood).
Thanks for the help

First, welcome to the MAAST website,

You problem may be an infection...usually secondary to other problems such as ich or trauma...Tangs are easily attacked by the ich parasite and tend to die from the secondary infections caused by the open wounds that the parasite make. please post a pic if possible to get a better idea what your dealing with.

Here's a picture of the tangs eye. I don't think I have ich, would the other fish have it if I did? See the little bubble on it's right eye. DO I need to get it out of the tank? so it won't contaminate it.
Thanks for the reply.

if you had ich on the fish, you would notice it, it presents itself as little salt flakes on the skin of the fish. the pic is a little fuzzy but i can see the a the white protrusion...it may be pop eye or can also be an infection from an injury to the eye. sometimes fish will rub close to a rock and scratch the eye which then gets infected...make sure the fish is eating. keep a close watch on him and tank mates for similar symptom. how long had the bubble been there?

A single eye is usually due to injury, both eyes is bacterial. I use epsom salt (1 tblspn per 10 gallons, 1 tblspn per 5 gallons for fish only tank) which often clears it up. Don't know why it helps sometimes since epsom salt is just magnesium sulfate. It's just a one time dose so it either works or it won't (i.e. don't keep adding more epsom salt).

One of my mimics had what I think is pop eye a few months ago. It looked like a big lump was forming over its eye. It took about a week for it to go away. I did not do anything. I figure as long as it was active and not acting differntly that I wouldnt stress it out more by adding medicine to the tank. I just kept a close eye on the fish and no one else got it. That is my experience.
