View Full Version : Zoa toxins

Well , i was trying to move some zoas today and because of where they are located, they were difficult to reach and the ends were attached very good to a rock that's not coming out of the tank without a major tear down. that wasn't going to happen... anyway when i got them off they released some toxins into the water. i have close to 50 SPS in the tank and i'm already running carbon.. water movement is excellent. do you guys think i have anything to worry about.

How do you know they released toxins? I thought they had to be consumed to cause damage.

i'm just assuming.. some small clouds of milky substance came out of them

they will probably be fine.

When I have removed zoa's in tank the acros seemed unaffected however the digitata's didn't like it at all. They didn't died but their polyps retracted for a couple of weeks. Of course, I was removing hundreds of zoa's and did not run any carbon.

cool. everything seems fine but my skimmer went nuts :wacko
