What's The Best TYPES of FOOD For TANGS???

I have 6 New tangs.

- Sailfin Tang (4")
- Powder Blue Tang (3.5")
- Achilles Tang (3.5")
- Purple Tang (4")
- Blue Hippo (Dori) Tang (2.5") X2

I already feed plenty or dried Nori and Mysys w\ garlic. Is there anything better. I want to keep these guys happy and well fed. I also plan on adding live brine shrimp every other day to the tank soon. Please give me your input as I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. - Solid

I do not have quite the population of tangs that you do, but I keep my tangs (1-4" Yellow and 1-6" Blue Hippo) and 6" scribbled rabbitfish happy with the following diet.

Some Formula 2 flake when the lights turn on. A rotation of frozen foods that includes mysis, ON Prime Reef, Emerald Entree, and krill soaked together with some New Life Spectrum pellet in Zoecon, Zoe and garlic around dinner time. And a sheet of seaweed (rotate between green, purple, and brown) each night during the twilight period of the lighting cycle. Some of these foods are not targeted for the tangs, but for other fish in the tank. However, the tangs have been healthy and robust for over a year now on the diet. The rabbitfish was about 2" when I got him and has grown like a weed.

Best of luck with your new additions. I hope the Achilles and PBT do not hassle each other too much given the reputation of each of those fish.

6 new tangs?? I hope you don't lose too many- as the achilles and the powder blue probably wont get along too well.

As for feeding- I keep my entire population of fish happy with a nice smoothie of fish food:

PE Mysis- most protein and fat
Spirulina Brine
Formula 2

My Powder Blue Tang is pretty docile right now. And the Achilles thinks that he's been my fish forever as he is already taking nori from my hands. Weird huh... The funny thing is that both the Powder Blue and the Achilles are the same size. So they don't harass each other very much. I would say that the Achilles is the more dominant of the two. But they'd rather eat than fight. :)

my tangs have always liked lightly steamed or micrwaved brocoli. They dont eat the "trunk" parts but nibble all the little green flowers off the top. Italso holds up well in a tank until eatten but you have to take it out after ~ a day...
