Howdy all,

I'm about to move my regal tang, yellow tang, foxface rabbitfish, bannerfish, a couple of false percs, anemones and corals from my 120 to my new 240, along with rock, sand, pumps, lights and stuff.

I think it's a good time to add a few fish. I was thinking about one larger fish like a sailfin tang and a school of small fish. Does anybody know of a small fish (1 to 3 inches) that will school in a group of 5 or 10? I was thinking of a chromis or something. But I've never seen them really make a tight school.

Any ideas?

I love the look of 5 or more Bangaiis floating along. Cardinals were pointed out by Ross. I believe the anthias are another. Engineer gobies will but prefer to hide together. Not sure what they are exactly but the saltwater catfish being sold in ATX are supposed to shoal in groups until many years old.

With that big of a tank you could try a group of anthias like bartlett's or dispars. They are harder to keep than cardinals or chromis and more espensive but I think they look a whole lot better.

Yeah, anthias are awesome like Mike and Aarone said but they are much harder to keep, and they require several feedings throughout the day.

Yeah, anthias are beautiful. I'm trying to cut back to one feeding per day. There are some nice looking damsels (I don't mean women). They are more aggressive, I know. But would they work? I've seen firefish stick together. Those are cool. How many firefish can I group together? Is there a limit?

Bannerfish look great swimming together. Too bad they get so big.

Any of the scissor or dart fish would be great in a school. I had 2 bar gobies that were fun to watch swimming around together.

You could get a bunch of firefish, 5 or 10 would be fine together. I would totally stay away from any damsel except the chromis.

I would definitely avoid damsels, other than chromis as mentioned above. They will cause lots of aggression problems and don't really school anyway. My chromis no longer school now that they have gotten larger. They have been in my tank for about a year and are now about 3".

I have heard good reports on chalk basslets and glass cardinals and they are both attractive.

chalk basslet, chromis, bar and scissortail gobies are all good schoolers. I like the blue chromis (caribbean)
