Ok...I went back over to Aquadome and bought their last erectus seahorse for $45. Just couldn't resist! He/she is so beautiful! Black with white splotches on the back. It's in my little 10 gallon until I get my 45 cube up and running in a couple of months. I'm so excited. I have been wanting seahorses for 3 years now! ^_^

I will get pics as soon as I can. My camera is still giving me fits about downloading pictures onto the computer. :angry

I've been worried about her because she seemed to be moving VERY slowly and not voraciously eating.

Well, I think she will be ok! She is more active now although I don't see her eat very often. I guess she is waiting until I am not staring at her. <_< She watches the food intently as it passes by, but she doesn't chase after it. Once it has landed in the algae beside her, she stares at it for several minutes then finally snicks it up. Hopefully, she is just lazy. 8)

I am wondering if she is lonely. There weren't any more horses in the tank with her at Aquadome though. What do you think? I am not real excited about adding another one from a different source/tank without finishing the quarantine process. Plus, I think it would not be a popular decision to spend another chunk of change right now.

horses are like that, social yes, but calm and indiferent..unless they are chasing food, then IS ON baby LOL, as long as she is (how do you know is a female?), eating, she'll be fine

good luck

Mathias what kind of pipes do you have?
the only ones that hide in my tank are the blue stripe africans, all others are out and about

I THINK she is eating. I haven't seen her take anything today or yesterday. She certainly doesn't chase it. She is however interested in it when I drop in the mysis and stares at it in the algae.

She seems a bit thin, and that is why I am concerned. However, she does seem more "active" today. She has switched hitching posts several times and is looking around more. I think it is possible that she is finding bits and pieces when I am not looking. If she wasn't, I would think she would be becoming more listless. Perhaps she is hunting pods as well. How many pieces of mysis should she eat at each feeding? Are a couple ok, or should she be gobbling as many as possible?

I was looking up how to tell the difference between the sexes, and her belly looks more like a female (I think). Although, it may be too soon to tell...

if is a juvenial, in most cases less than 3", is very hard to tell

horses dont have stomachs so eat all day, try some fresh water shrimp, just so she can eat something, maybe after that she'll get more interested in more food

have my fingers cross for you

The Dome feeds a lot of cyclops to their tanks. You may want to try that with the mysis to see if you get a reaction.

That is what I was just thinking. I saw her hitched down low in the tank staring at the sand. She may be eating the shrimp off the bottom of the tank. I asked these questions on seahorse.org too. I was told that many horses that eat frozen wait until it is on the bottom. I feel a little relieved, but will keep a close eye on her.

She is definitely eating!!! :D I just saw her lean over and grab 3 or 4 shrimp! Maybe she is thinner because her tank mates had been quicker eaters? Anyway, this has got to be the most laid back horse ever. :P Maybe once she has more food in her over the next couple of weeks she will liven up slightly... either way...she's great!

Apparently, Bill's horsies just had another batch of babies! (for sale thread). Wish I was set up to care for them. :(

Where did you get the pipe fish? Do you feed it live food, or does it eat frozen?

Luis at AW

I got lucky they were a male and female, I did not know until close examination, so of course, a pair had to go together :P :D
