I added the gate valve to my ES5-3 and man it works awesome. It makes it a lot easier to dial in and after cleaning its a lot easier to start back up. I found all needed pvc parts at home depot. Super easy to put together, maybe 5 min. total time diy.

My HDepot doesn't stock the gate valve, only the ball. I've checked a few others around here and found the same thing. I heard Lowes carries them. I just used a 1 1/4" ball valve. Pulled the adjuster tube off and the ball valve slid right on the inside pipe. What I found with mine is that the heigth was perfect and I never actually adjusted the valve. I experimented with a short piece of sch10 1 1/4" pipe and a 90 elbow. I put the elbow directly on the pipe, short nipple, valve. This lowered the heigth and I was able to use the valve. Also quieted the falling wate sounds. I would perfer a gate valve for ease of use. The ball gets sticky if you let it sit for a day.

Okay does anyone know where to get a 1.25" gate valve? No one in San Marcos and Austin carries them.

Well if anyone happens to pick one up lmk if they're available because none of the Ace, HD or Lowes in San Marcos or Austin seem to have them. If anyone wants to pick one up for me I'd really appreciate it an d will gladly pay for one and maybe throw in a frag or 2

OK does I need some help. For some reason no matter which configuration I use the skimmate seems to overflow. Even with the gate fully open. I have lowered the gatevalve as low as it can go and it seemed to help but when I add the "T" connection it starts to overflow. Is there a trick to setting these things up or is my pump to big? I think its a sedra 3500.

I did not do the whole T overflow system to mine. I just put the valve down on top of the first pipe. Then I regulate it with the valve itself.

Thats how I currently have it setup. The problem is the valve is half in the water and half out.
