I ordered 250 Ilyanassa snails almost 2 weeks ago from "starmageddon" on eBay. They finally arrived today! The box appeared to be well-beaten and was covered in a plastic bag. I thought that was pretty strange until I actually got the package opened. The stench of 249 dead snails has got to be the most horrendous thing you've ever smelled, good god. I went ahead and started to acclimate the poor little fellas so that I didn't accidentally throw out any living guys. There was one. This smell is disgusssting! I've washed my hands thoroughly literally 2 dozen times, so much that the skin on my fingertips is beginning to peel, and the smell still won't go away! ugh!
Anyway, I've sent "starmageddon" an email regarding his "90% Live Arrival Guaranteed." policy. We'll see how this turns out. I'm pretty upset about the whole deal... I would have hoped to have these guys cleaning out my tank for me a week ago. Oh well. <_<
Well, to get to the moral of this story... 250 DEAD SNAILS ARE THE MOST HORRENDOUS SMELLING THING IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!! EVEN WORSE THAN DAVY JONES!!

Perhaps if he resends you could request a 'just-in-case' complimentary emergency nose pin! :lol

For the stench, if you have a stainless sink, or access to a piece of stainless bar, just run your hands under cold water while rubbing them on the stainless. No kidding, this really works. Even Consumer Reports did a piece on it. Works great with onions & garlic too!

Yeah I know. He seems to be the cheapest on ebay. But I didn't get them from him. I was warned by another ebay member. Here is what they said:
Thank you David for you interest and your offer to bring me your business. I can't do any better than that, and that's an excellent deal. However I will say Buyer Beware, I know Starmaggedon, so I hope you have a smooth transaction. (By the way armaggedon means doom)LOL. Have a great day Sir, God Bless.
Plus my intent was to sell them locally. But I guess it didn't work out that way. - David
I found this in the for Sale forum. There is another link to reputable seller I will look and see. I am going to order some if you want to join me lmk

From the description of the box, it sounds like the carrier may be to blame. I ordered 250 from them a few weeks ago and did not lose hardly any. The box was in perfect shape though. I hope he takes care of you. The only problem I had with the whole transaction was he took a week before shipping them. I read the auction later and it said he would take up to 5 business days. I think he ships out on Mondays.
Good Luck,
Kevin

I sent him an email and he responded pretty quickly. He said that last time he shipped them on a Tuesday and the mail must have just taken too long (6 days). He apologized and said he would ship them out next Monday as to not take any more chances with shipping delays. We'll see how it goes this time around.

Well I ordered some from his too, last Monday (9/18). When they didnt't come I sent an email and someone else responded that he was out of town all last week and they would be sent this week. It said they ship on Mondays and Tuesdays. I haven't heard anything since, but I'm staying optimistic for now. Would have been nice to know when I ordered them that it would be delayed for a week.
His recent feedbacks are all still positive except for one last month for a car part.

The 1 that I thought made it unfortunately didn't. Poor guy just died with his legs out.

Once they start to die the ammonia goes through the roof and takes the rest of them with it. The survivor was probably still suffering from ammonia toxicity. We had the same problem with a shipment of crabs from Zen Reef in Hawaii.

one of them had what appeared to be legs. I suppose it was a hermit thrown in the batch or something.

did you get your problem resolved? Did you ever get live snails? I was thinking about placing an order.
Thanks

Darth,
I ordered also (see my earlier post) and I got mine on Wednesday. I ordered 100 and got 253. Only about 30 were alive. I have emailed them a couple of times and not gotten any response. I'm fixing to give up and order more from someone else.
Also note: The auction location and the personal profile both say Freeport TX but the return address on the package I got said New Bern, NC 28560
