Thank you for those who helped with my sump upgrade post but i have a new idea that i think might be better and cheaper which is allways a plus. So insted of trying to remove the 30 gallon sump i have under my 75 and risk total distruction, i think im just going to leave it in and outfit the extra 20 gallon i have not in use, drill it and put it next to the main tank as a nice fuge. this way i up the water volume alot more than just get a better sump. Here is a few questions... first, can i drill the 20 gallon? is it safe. Also can i use the mag 7 i have as a return to the main tank and use it to pump water from the sump to the fuge, get a mag 9 or something to replace it or is that to much flow for such a small fuge tank? (if anyone has a Mag that would be good for the return please let me know) thanks all you guys are so much help!

you dont have to pump water to the fuge, you can divert some of the water draining from your tank to your sump out to the fuge, just make sure to put a ball valve in line to control the amount of flow that goes to the fuge. then, the fuge would drain to the sump, and you still just use one return pump to get all the water back to the display. fin addict drills tanks, so they could help you out with that.

But the main tank and the fuge would sit side by side, and the built-in overflow is below where the fuge would sit and i dont think the mag 7 is powerfull enough to run a split line. right?

Check out my site to see that I did the saem thing you are wanting to do. It has been great as I basically have two tanks set up to view. One is reef safe and the other is non-reef safe.
I use a Mag 18 to return the water to both tanks through my chiller. Both tanks have overflows in them and return to the sump below.
I also use a Mag 24 to send water to the reservoir.

I have a built in fuge in my sump but needed an external feed. I first hooked up an extra pump, more money, cords, and heat.. When I got my huge Eheim hooked up it was far to much out put into my tank so I decided to cut down on the flow. I read putting a ball valve on the return side doesn't hurt the pump. I'm a pipefitter and I know better than that. So instead what I did was to add a tee into my return above the sump and add a ball valve on the diverted side of the tee. I then piped from that to the fuge. Instant success. i can control the amount water returning to my tank by diverting it to my fuge, vice versa as well. Noi extra head pressure was added to my pump so it works freely and all is well.
