You THINK? My 215 has a tempered bottom, 3/4" thick. Oceanic tempers AFTER drilling. I'd want to be SURE. Who built the tank?

Ross

you can look in middle of the bottom or around the top edges and there might be a sticker...

I took off the top edges Cause Im replacing them. And the only other thing I see on it is proudly made by jorge... small sticker on the bottom edge..

I'm pretty sure all-glass and oceanic put those 'made by' stickers on. I dont think any other companies do though. Thats a good thing though, almost never is an all glass or oceanic tank tempered except in the bottom.

That shouldnt be a problem as long as you dont mind having the holes in the back.

hey urban excuse me for stealing your tread for a quick question regarding drilling.....can a tank be drilled with it being setup and can it be drilled from the inside....

yes it can be drilled setup, we just have to drain half the water. drilling from the inside out really doesnt matter, the bulkhead will still seal either way.

Hey Ross,
Have you ever had a tank break or crack while you're drilling it?
Ross
Sun, 27th Aug 2006, 04:22 PM
I've cracked 1 tank but it was tempered so it doesnt really count, I've never broken a regular tank.
MattK
Sun, 27th Aug 2006, 04:25 PM
How can you tell if it's tempered or not?
Ross
Sun, 27th Aug 2006, 04:28 PM
Theres really no way...just check the sticker on the tank or try to figure out what brand it is. Usually all-glass and oceanic are not tempered on the sides. The 2 tanks we have cracked at Fin-Addict were marineland i think, and both were tempered in teh sides.

Not to question your skills, I'm sure you're awesome, but would you feel comfortable drilling a tank when it's in use? The worst case scenario in catastrophic. I've never drilled a tank so I don't know how hard/easy it is but what if...
Ross
Sun, 27th Aug 2006, 04:39 PM
What size tank is it?
MattK
Sun, 27th Aug 2006, 04:45 PM
My tank is already drilled. I was just wondering how comfortable you felt with drilling a half filled tank. What would you do if it broke? Once again, I'm sure you're awesome at it and would take all precautions to avoid a possible mishap, and I'm not questioning your skills.
Ross

I've done it more than once....so im pretty comfortable.
Felipe drilled a half full tempered tank once, it didnt turn out well. The tank busted and all the water and fish went everwhere.
