I converted my mj600 into a maxi stream and does it ever move water. It easily moves more water than my 2 seios, and two other maxis combined. The stream coming out of it is almost 10 inches wide too. These things are great.

Thats the mod that I used. It wasnt that hard to do but does take some paitience and adjusting. I'm probably going to make a couple more shrowds, but not sure if I need to make another impeller yet. One creats more than enough flow i think

i just did that same one yesterday. good flow, but way too noisy for me. i think the rigid airline that i used has too large an ID. i am going to try again. i did a 1200 and the impeller set up is a little differnet then the others. i think i will try the 900 next.

I have modded a mj600 for my 65 and it too moves a lot of water. To the point where I need to have it on a timer so that everything gets movement every 30 minutes or so and then off at night. Works Great!! I am going to be making a couple more in the coming weeks. Also, no noise except the low hummmmm from the propeller.

You would think that maxijet would catch on to this trend and come up with one off the shelf.

Dark, If I send (or bring)you two MJ 1200, what would you charge me to mod them?

Uh... dunno, depends oh what type of parts you bring me and how you want it made. depending on the type of pipe you get it can be and easy snap on or you have to cut the ring or use the cap. I'd much rather work for frags though, my take is looking rather empty these days. Just pm me and we can talk

Hey Gary, this would be a great project for a meeting. Get a bunch of "kits" from the guy who makes them as a group order? Then we can all assemble them at the meeting? It looks like the cost per unit INCLUDING a Maxijet 1200, is less than $45 each. http://www.mjmods.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products _id=44

But, it's still 1/5 the cost of a Tunze!

if you cut shrowds yourself its even cheaper than that.

hey dark,
just curious, did you buy the mod kits or did you make them...im thinking of coverting with all locally bought supplies, but not sure if thats a good idea or if its easier to buy the mod kits...i plan on cutting my own shrowds ....LMK

I bought some stuff and found others locally... the only thing I had a hard time finding locally are the props and steel rod

Stainless 316L welding rod can be found at any welding supply for cheap. It comes in about 6 diameters. I think it was $8 a pound last I bought some. A pound is a lot of impellers. 316L is medical grade stainless and has absolutely no iron ore left in it unlike 303 and 304. Won't rust or corrode. Check places like Airgas.

is anyone interested in getting together on an order from mjmods.com for this stuff. I have more people asking me to make the mod for them than I have parts for so it looks like im going to just order some. I'm too lazy to drive around town to pick it all up. If so i'll start a tread in the group order forum. I'll probably order by friday

Well, I'm THINGING about just buying some Seios? Any thoughts out there about the difference between say a modified MJ1200 and say a Seio M1500. I can't imagine that a modified MJ puts out FIVE TIMES as much with the mod???

Right now I have a seio 620 and a modded mj 600 and there is no comparison, the mj move way more water and the stream is a lot wider. It's at least 10" in diameter, the mj is probably 4 inches under water and still causes major surface disruption where as the seio is maybe 2 inches and there's nothing at the surface

ok just did two mods on mj1200 and the flow out of these things is crazy....i think i have too much flow now...but beware if you are going to use the instructions on the reefchilli site they are a lil off on the supplies needed.....i got the glue, rods, and props at the hobby center off of fred road...pvc from lowes...tubing from alamo aquatic....

I bought all the parts locally. Real easy to assemble. I make the housings real quick with the sliding miter saw. Built a couple for Darthtator. I found the mj900 with dual nitro props worked best. Less hum IMO.

hey ou where did you find the end caps or did you make them...what about the shroud what did you use to make them...pvc pipe or fitting? what size?

Depending on which prop you use.
The mj 900 on the right: I used the dual nitrohammer prop. the housing is 2" sch 40 pvc pipe cut down to 3". the base is a end cap w/ hole drilled in center and the nozzle is a 2" model plane light wheel. http://www2.omnimodels.com/cgi-bin/woi0001p?&I=GWSQ2205&P=O
I found this to give the most bang for the buck.
The mj 1200 I used the dumas 1.75 prop. The housing is a 2.25" coupler(it links two 2" pipes together). Again the base is a drilled out end cap and the nozzle is a 2" model plane light wheel. The terminal end has to be bored with a whole saw to recess the 2" wheel. The cente of the wheel can be drilled out or drilled part way. If drilled out then you get a rattling noise or hum. The shaft doesn't have to move. The prop spins around it. Also id you use a stainless steel shaft, you get less vibration. The carbonfiber is not exactly a true cylinder.
The base cap, coupler and pvc can be found at lowes or home depot. Check your local hobby store for the rest of the parts. I found them at the hobby shop on fredericksberg rd. If she doesn't have the parts in stock then she knows what to order. hope this helps. Takes about an hour to cut and to put everything together. I can cut housings for a small fee if anyone is interested.

heated it with a heat gun and bent it 90 degrees. emerced it in ice water. it slides into the clip on top that comes with pump. only thing is when you connect it to the lip of the tank, you need to put a suction cup on thetank side behind it. The force of the water pushing forward pushes
