I used to go up to the Kenai on business fairly frequently. It is truly a remarkable place.

wow! that really takes me back! i spent may-oct of 2000 on the kenai. what an incredible place. i haven't stopped dreaming of going back yet, next time i'd like to stay for maybe a couple of years. but, if i did that, i'd probably never come back.

yeah, eagles are like pigeons up there. i was all exited about the first few i saw, but then i saw about 150 at one time, scavenging behind a fish processing plant. after that the novelty began to wear off. that's not to say they're not gorgeous creatures, its just surprising(encouraging)to see how common they are in that part of the world.

once, while hiking near Caine's Head, which is south of Seward, during the salmon run, a buddy of mine had been joking about my dog(Flo), a pit-bull, who had been chasing the salmon in the stream crossings all along the hike. well, we hiked in to an old military installation built in WW2, and spent a couple days exploring , and camping out in the old bunkers that were there. anyways, on the hike back out, sure enough, i hear my buddy say "holy %$#@, she's got one". so i turn around to see flo, coming from the edge of the bay with about a 10 pound salmon in her mouth, looking like she doesn't know what to do. so, i run down there, pull out my knife and cut it open, wash it out in the ocean, and carry it out. i was working in a greek restaraunt in seward at the time so, i took it there and prepared it, then to another freinds place who had a wood stove. we wrapped it in tin-foil, with butter, and spices and threw it in the coals. we all ate good, but flo ate at least half of that fish. i always say i've been feeding her for 11 years, but that's the only time she fed me dinner! when i looked back on it later, it occured to me that i didn't have a fishing liscence, and i don't think a game-warden would have believed the story. fortunately, we didn't see any.
