There is a lady offering to sell me 2 used "Tunze 1600" powerheads. I can't find any by that name on the net. Does that mean 1600 gph? Anyone familiar with these? What do they cost new?

Yeah...that's what I was thinking. She said she didn't know what the 1600 meant, but the fish store guy told her 2 would be great for her 75 gallon. I'm wondering if she was sold junk, overkill, or actually a good product. I will ask if it says "tunze" on it. She claims to have paid $100 each new.

Seems like a steep price for 427gph. Is this actually worthy of a mint price tag? I take it this is a knock-off.

She also has 5 Marineland 550s. Anyone used these before?

They are the Tunze pumps that were out before the streams. Loans what are you keeping in your tank?

For now, it is a 75 with softies and lps. I have a couple of powerheads (around 480 gph each), but am thinking about possibly getting a larger tank (possibly 130 or so) down the road. I am "stocking up" a little at a time.
Would these be a good buy to supplement my other 2 if I move everything over to a bigger tank? ---Or should I wait for a better buy somewhere else?
If I make an offer on these, what would be a decent price?

If you ever decide to keep sps in your larger tank I would recommend going with the stream or the wave box, if all you plan on keeping on softies they might be a good choice

I would second the Tunze Stream. If you looking for a bad ***** powerhead there is no other that beats it. With a larger, longer tank the wave box is a great addition to the Stream(s).

Tunze stream, hands down by far for powerheads. Strong and efficient. THe Vortech pump was supposed to be a nice pump but there has been some failures reported.

If you ever have any questions or problems with a Tunze product, Roger on Reef Central (in the Tunze forum) will help you out!! I think he is going to be in Germany for a few weeks so he won't be able to answer stuff as quickly. But normally it does not take long to get a response from him.

Anyone heard what the new stream will do? Brian you might want to consider one when they come out.
