I dont know too much about in sump skimmers, so I need opinions.
Im considering these:
ASM
Euro Reef
Coralife Super (needle/wheel)

It will be skimming a 40g, so Im not sure as to which model to get. I like the ASM skimmers though, not as pricey as Euro Reef...

you wont need much of a skimmer. i have a Berlin running on my 40g. it does just enough work and not much more, its kinda lazy.

I have a Euroreef 6-2 on my 30 cube and I love it. It allows you to feed heavily and not be an absolute algae farm. In fact, I was even thinking of upgrading to a Deltec skimmer for the next small tank I do. Why not look at that Deltec Turbo skimmer tequilafrogs had for sale in the for sale section?

I think the Deltec 1250 may be overkill on a 40g...
That and $300 is out of my pricerange...

I use the Euro Reef 5-3 ES on my 60 cube and it works AWESOME. I only paid $135.00 for it on ebay direct from euroreef as a manufactures blemish model, but never found the blemish.

Now that we FINALLY got my turboflotor 1000 multi tuned in (well, actually it just miraculously went from shooting totally clear water through the cup to slightly brown tinged water to finally good skimmage. Don't know how it fixed itself) I love it! I'm dumping about a1/2 to 1 cup a day of icky brown smelly (but watery) gunk it's pulling from my 75g where I've only got two fish and a few softies.

It didn't really start working well until it had been on the tank for over a month. We kept thinking we were going to have to put a ball valve on the pump to the skimmer to slow it down but just hadn't gotten around to it. Finally about 2 days before the valve was going to be installed it started working great!

I would definately consider a Euro-Reef. I am using a Euro-reef 5-2 on my 29g and it pulls out gunk. Turboflotors are also good. I havent tried an ASM but I have heard great things about it. I have a friend who has a coralife and he is always having problems with it. According to him its sensitive to water levels, and he tells me it needs adjusting frequently.

I've never used the coralife nw skimmer personally but every one I have sold the people have been very happy with their performance. Even a guy who LOVES turboflotor's says he's pretty impressed with his coralife nw.
