I have a new 40g hex tank but Im having problems figuring out what to do with it. I currently have a 30 gallon softie tank so Id like to do something different than that. The equipment I have on it currently is a very nice and pretty large cascade canister filter (rated up to 180g id probably run just carbon) and Im about to get a 250W MH set up as well for it. I was going to do a pred tank but just figured I wouldnt be able to put the fish I want in it. Should I just do a SPS? I was thinking about possibly switching my 30g lights to the 40g. Its a coralife 192w PC then making the 40g a seahorse tank but was wondering how hard that would be.

Or I guess I could possibly move the softies to the 40g with the 250MH and make a softie and sps tank. The 30g has a built in fuge that is very well established so that might make a seahorse tank more realistic. Are seahorse tanks cool or are they just kinda boring?

Im not looking for a right or wrong here. Just any cool ideas and thoughs would be greatly appreciated. Or if I need to change any equipment just let me know. Thanks

No, not boring at all. Seahorses really interesting, but take extra care. so if you are considering it read up a lot, buy tank raised, and plan on being able to feed twice a day. i believe it is because SH cannot store energy effectively, they must feed often. Companions can be pipe fish, inverts, many less potent corals, seagrasses, macro algae, gobies, blennies, many passive fishes, gorgonians, sponges. They have a lot of character. check out www.seahorse.org for good reading. g'luck

Most hexs can be difficult to do SPS in because they are a lot deeper than a similar volume rectangular tank. I doubt that your PCs would be anywhere near adequate. You would definitely need to upgrade to MH.
