Hello everyone,
The Education Committee is need of your help. We have a pretty aggressive list of goals we want to accomplish in 2006 and we need your help. We don't necessarily need expert reefkeepers. What we do need are folks with a little time and a willingness to help out with some pretty exciting things we have planned for this year. Here are just a few of the things we are working on:
1. A big trip to Port Aransas for this year, along with the folks from our sister club from in, MARSH. We want to make a full weekend out of this including collecting on the jetties, a trip to the aquarium in Corpus, and possibly of tour of the UT Marine Science Institute (UTMSI). We will have some planned social mixer type activities with the folks from MARSH as well.
2. Another nationally known speaker event such as the Paletta event held last November at SeaWorld. We haven't chosen a speaker yet, so if you have ideas about that, please jump in and help us make it happen.
3. A rookie reefer seminar to be held later this year. This will be team taught by our own members as well as invited speakers. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to invite your friends that have been curious about the hobby but maybe a little hesitant to jump in.
4. Speaker exchange with MARSH and possible our sister club in Dallas, DFWMAS. We'd like to get some fresh blood to come and speak at our regular monthly meetings.
5. An online library with indexed links to just about every conceivable topic in the SW hobby.
We may come up with some other ideas along the way, but that is just a few to give you an idea of what we have in the works. We need your help to make it all happen. I would like to put together teams to work on all of these projects, by the members of the board of directors. If you have ever been interested in getting involved in the inner workings of the club, and maybe later move up to a BOD position, this would be a good opportunity for you.
Committee members are required to be a charter member. So if you have held off on joining, please do so now. Membership can be done by the Paypal link here or by contacting Sherri, our Treasurer.
Other committees are needing help as well and those committee chairman will be posting similar threads in the near future. The other committees include sponsorship, meetings, Tank of the Month, and we may be forming a budget committee in the near future. If you have a finance or accounting background, your help there would be greatly appreciated. Anyone interested in helping with the Education Committee can contact me by PM.
