Here's a couple pics of my 46 gallon. It's been running about 3 years. It's nothing special but what I love about this tank is I don't do anything to it. Maintenance is a water change every every 4 - 5 months or so and THAT'S IT! No dosing, no chemicals, no skimmer, nothing. It's just there. Well, I cleaned the glass (some of it at least) two weeks ago for the first time in a couple of months.

I'm starting to think I might need to do some fragging though. What do think....frag or can I go another year.

Maybe frag a little. Looks good for very little maintenance.

LOL. I might just out of laziness. The fragging thing was just tongue in cheek. This tank was really just an experiment. I'm thinking of redoing it completely. Maybe seahorses or something. Haven't decided.

Plus if you frag it, you get all of the nasty leather toxins and slime...yuck. You might have to do water changes more that 2 times a year :lol :lol :lol

Are you using carbon as a substrate in that tank?

Yeah, this was the tank that I used to "test" the theory. Skimmerless and neglected and no real algae problems. Phosphates and nitrates are undetectable. It normally does not have any nuisance algae but after around 6 months of no water change and ignoring it, it got a little on the sandbed that you can see in the pick. About two week ago I cleaned the glass and noticed it so I did a little maintenance. The sg was at 1.031 :blink and my purple gorgonian was dead . Guess 6 months is just a little too long to ignore it.

I used to have more fish in it, a shrimp goby, a black ocellaris and another cardinal but I had a compassionate moment and instead of killing some little gorilla crabs that were on some acros in my 215 I tossed them in this tank. Man, that was stupid. About four months later my fishies began disappearing and I didn't even remember I had thrown those stupid crabs in there so I didn't figure out what was happening until after they were all gone. The lone cardinal left has always stayed mid level in the tank even at night, so I guess that's why that never got to him. So take it from me...don't be nice to gorilla crabs just kill them! They are evil!
