Hey guys,

So I got possibly the most beautiful fish I've ever owned yesterday in the form of a blue spot leopard wrasse. I have a couple of questions if anyone has some experience with this fish.

1. He looks great and is swimming around, sleeps in his little sand bed (my tank is barebottom so he literally has a tupperware bed filled with sand), but shows no interest in my food. I know it's only been one day but I really like it when my fish eat (weird like that, I know ^_^ ). I feed a frozen mix of pretty much everything under the sun, does anyone have a suggestion as to what to feed him? Live feeders of some sort to get him started?

2. He's in my 30 gallon cube with only one other fish, a juvenile sunrise dottyback. This stupid dottyback has proven to be more and more of a pain in my ***. Can anyone think of a good way to get him out, other than taking all the rock out? He's so freaking fast a fish trap probably won't work. I'm open to suggestions... even a tiny fishing pole suggestion.

Maybe try some small sw ghost shrimp. Don't know who in austin carries them but I would guess someone does.

We got lucky and had an awesome leapord wrasse that eat frozen but it was already eating frozen when we got it.

And she's STILL eating like a little piggie (thanks again :wub ). Has to be one of my favorite fish in the tank...she's so tame, one could almost scoop her up in their hand to catch her. She eats quite literally anything I put in the tank!

John- Does the dottyback seem to be pestering the wrasse? If it is, I think I'd just bite the bullet, pull the rock out and take the dotty to your nearest friendly marine retailer as a trade in for something else.
As far as eating, yes - it would be super great if you had a healthy 'pod population. Even though our leopard eats everything, I still see her hunting for 'pods too (yeesh, she a plump widdle thing!)
I wouldn't worry too much just yet...give it some time to settle into it's new surroundings.

If you want to try the ghost shrimp, I think AquaTec carries them from time to time...give them a call.

Best of luck with your new wrasse! (post a pic??!!)

W. :)

That's great to hear about your Leopard Wendy! I may just bite that bullet indeed and get rid of that dottyback from hell, although I like the fish, I don't like its personality.

I did find some saltwater prawns that are small enough and should work wonderfully but for the past two days now, the wrasse hasn't come out of the sand box. I literally have a tupperware container of sand in my tank for its bed and I know for a fact that he's down there (a got real scared the other day and found him in the little sand box).

All I can do now is cross my fingers I suppose, but this fish was just too cool the day it was out.

Unfortunately I just saw my new wrasse unbury himself, come out of the sand, and gasp for air and what looks like dying :( . It really is a shame this fish is dying but for the next one, that dottyback has got to go!
