Just got a BEAUTIFUL long tentacle Purple Anenome to add to my 2 RTBAs and was wondering what all kinds of foods to people feed their anenomes.

My two RBTA love Krill and Fomula Cubes, but what else do people feed?

I think someone told me whole cooked shrimp from HEB?? and Silversides?

Just wondering....

Mine is a shrimp lover. Actually I just leave it up to my pair of GSM clown fish to feed 'their anenome'. When I feed the frozen shrimp or flake they take chunks of it down to the anenome to feed it.

I have many years of experience in the wholesale food industry(I used to sell food/supplies to restaurants and institutions) and the shrimp that is available for human consumption is pumped full of Sodium Triphosphate (most chicken is as well). The shrimp are soaked in the sodium triphosphate because it causes the flesh to absorb water. Shrimp is a commodity that is traded on weight and size of the shrimp. The bigger the shrimp the more it is worth. The shrimp literally will swell to a bigger size. You might have noticed that when you grill shrimp it will shrink. This is because you are forcing the water out of the shrimp as steam. Anyway, point of the story is that when you feed your anenomes store bought shrimp you are also feeding your tank a big dose of pure phosphate. BTW, they don't have to list sodium triphosphate as an ingredient on shrimp. With chicken, it is typically noted as a percentage of saline solution. I don't know why the chicken industry has to make note of it and the shrimp industry does not.

I would feed my anemone silver sides and shrimp pellets. Pellets were cheap too. Ausstin, thanks for the info. Thats good to know.

just a side note in case you dont know but purple LTAs like to live in sand not on rocks so if it keeps moving off of your rock work that is why. :)
