Since I dont need the mother of all cameras, are there any decent entry level cameras out there that take clear, bright pictures with a usable macro/zoom in the $100 range? I see tons on ebay but Im not sure which are junk and which are actually usable.
Thanks for any feedback or examples.

Nikon and Canon are usually pretty good. I'd guess you can probably find a nikon 3200 for around 100. I've got one you can play with sometime if you want.

I agree, Nikon and Canon are both good. The Canon A60 should be $100 or less. A Canon A70 or A75 would be a little more but a better value IMO. All three use AA batteries. Be careful, some of the point and shoots use an expensive ($10+) battery.

Things to look for in a cheap camera for your tank...
AA batteries(so you can buy a cheap set of rechargable's)
SD or CF card(cheaper)
Adjustable whitebalance preferably with custom or option to manually set
Macro mode
Name brand(nikon, canon...)

If you find something that looks interesting....
Go here to read reviews on it: www.dpreview.com. They usually have very detailed reviews on many if not most of the digital cameras.

If you are looking to take pictures strictly of your tank then I'd go Nikon. I've seriously thought about getting a Nikon just for macro shots rather than spend the money for a new lens for my Canon.

Do a google search for digital camera reviews, there are a few good ones out there (dcresource, dpreview, etc.).
