Curious to know which brand of salt your using and why. I have been using red sea and had good luck so far. I will run out here shortly and want to know if there is something better

Combination of Instant Ocean and Oceanic. Why? To attempt to get a good combination of alk and calcium. I test the new makeup water and add either Part A or Part B B-Ionic. I dose a little bit of which ever is needed to help keep my parameters at about 450 calcium, and 8-9 dkh.

Why did you guys who have switched from Oceanic to IO do so? My limited experience with Oceanic has been that it's much easier to work with. Is it the high CA/low alk in Oceanic?

with oceanic, my calc was around 700. i was just afraid of an eventual snowstorm and crash. now, with a few water changes with IO, it is down to 550. i didn't change anything else and i am not adding any kalk or other calcium suppliment....yet.

i also used to use oceanic, but have switched to IO. with the oceanic i was constantly trying to control calcium levels that were much too high.

Seems like everyone uses IO or oceanic. Has anyone ever tried the red sea? Should I also make the switch to IO?

I used Oceanic for awhile and did not like the results. I'm using Instant Ocean now and LOVE IT :)

Oh yeah, as my corals have started growing more and more I have started adding a little Reef Advantage Calcium (Has calcium & mag) when I mix up my new water. Seems to help. Alk is not an issue for me since I have a Ca reactor.

Funny thing about salts I must say. Everyone has gone to this or that with regard to salt yet it seems everyone comes back to IO. :)

Reef Crystals is IO. Its their top of the line version ... with higher levels than the regular IO.

I tried reef crystals for a while, I was having good results. For some reason I just came back to IO, dont know why? Might have been the price difference.

Price difference .. its all marketing! Why if you produce the "best" salt do you need 2-3 or more versions. Keep it simple and put it all in one bucket.

I would go with IO but still mixing IO and Oceanic, have to use up the Oceanic. Its going to take awhile since my water changes are only 5g LOL
