View Full Version : Hanging

Lately the site has been working slow for me and the pages and links within the site hang. I sometimes have to click it again to get it to go through as well as sometimes having to click the link more than once for it to start.

I hit other sites at the same time to see if its my connection or heavy traffic in the area, but all others work fast and smooth.

I use RoadRunner and IE with XP.

For example .. @7sec for this post to go and another 5sec for the post to show up.

I get that all the time too... I also get it at my kayaking site (www.paddletexas.com)

I've looked into it on my site and there never seems to be anything solid to point to with the connection or route so my conclusion has been that it might just be scripts (postnuke and PNphbb2) fighting one another to load the page. I'm not a computer guru so I'm giong to tag along on this one to see what Chris has to say.

There is a lot of reasons that this could happen from your computer to the server.

I would start with looking for spyware on your computer first....that stuff can eat up your memory and processor times. BAD stuff.

Other than that you can clean out your cache, defrag, delete temps, etc, etc...just basica computer houes cleaning....make sure you don't have a ton of processes loading, and make sure you dont' have unneeded services loading. Seems everything wants to load on startup! LOL

The server is running relatively smooth, there are only perhaps 2 times throughout the day (peak hours) that i'm noticing any sort of high performance cycles being processed.

I've been on the forums while it's reaching it's peak in CPU % and the site still runs smooth for me without issues, yet.

I'll try to keep a closer eye on things, but thus far there aren't any huge spikes that would lead me to believe there should be an issue.

I'm having absolutely no troubles with postings.

The forum has been running relatively quickly for me despite the fact that I changed the MySQL settings a few days ago to lower cache sizes(prior to that they were increased significantly).

It wouldn't hurt if we increased our spending for additional RAM though.

Josh, any ideas maybe? :o

Hey Pete...

All the before mentioned fixes are good, but I think the problem is with IE itself. I had some users that just cannot get some pages to load in IE, and they work fine in Firefox. You could load Firefox and test MAAST on it. I get much better response from FF anyway.

And you might try Opera for a browser. It's free now. And the zoom feature and linked and tabbed pages are really neat features for browsing MAAST.

I can't handle internet life without tabbed browsing. :huh :P :D

Is there one site in particular you would suggest to get it at? FireFox

::pete::

WOW ... FireFox seems to have taken care of it.

Joshua
Should I still try the others as well?
