Just got back from Padre and it was a big bust. All I brought back was those little scallops (I think thats what they are) that bury themselves in the sand. Other than that I brought back this huge clam shell shown in the pic. Oh yeah, had a blast 4-wheeling in my truck 8) .

I don't see any ruts. Are you sure you went 4wheeling. I went 2wheeling in my tacoma and had a blast.

I always love going down there in my truck and tearing up that sand :)

What you got were probably butterfly clams that burrow in the sand.

Yeah, thats them Gary. They are chillin' in my fuge now. I was really dissapointed because when I was in Virginia Beach there were pods coming in with each wave, tons of them. Then I go to South Padre and don't find anything but those clams :cry .

Henry, thats just a scenic pic of my truck. No pics of acutal 4-wheeling.

Yeah, havent been 4-wheeling over there, but im sure the H2 would hold its own..LOL

Cool "clam" Anson, ive seen those too, they kind of wiggle themselves in the sand.. Also, when theres algea flating around, theres a bunch of amphipods all around and isndide the algea.

Anson,

I kinda doubt the clams will survive in your fuge but good luck and let us know. They are filter feeders, sorta like barnacles, and I somehow doubt there is enough nutrients to keep them alive in a tank. The surf zone where they come from is full of nutrients because of the wave action present there that keeps things stirred up.

Pete, I don't think so. These guys are only about 1/4" across. I may be wrong. I can't find anything online about them. We need one of those beach critter ID books.

Somewhat off topic, but a funny story :lol

When the kids were young, we made a Padre trip and collected a bunch of these little clams because my kids were facinated by the variety of shell colors, etc. Well I put them in a little pail with a little sand & water and then forgot they were in the trunk for about a week or two. When I finally opened the trunk :sick :sick :sick

The car stunk for months

Donny and I were in Port A last night. We got 100 plus peppermints, a few blue flower??? anemones, a couple of stone crabs, several blennies, and some macro that I swear looks just like tang heaven red. We collected all that in about 30 minutes. When I put the macro in the tank the tangs ate it right up.

How did you get the anemones off the rock I kept trying and the one that finally came off died the next day. :unsure Also were did you see the blennies, did you catch them in a cast net?

Thanks
Dan

As soon as the rest of my scuba gear gets here I plan on diving over by the jetties at Port A we saw a big group do it off to the left so there must be cool stuff down there.

So what are you going to feed those Stone Crabs? Tangs? RBTA? Maybe a nice frogspawn?
