It finally came!!! Here is my new 2005 JBJ 6 modified by nanocustoms.com Im so excited to have another nano!!! It will be home to a pair of harlequin shrimp, 3-4 pom-pom crabs, 2-3 porcelain crabs, and a lettuce nudibranch. And the only corals will be what I like to call 'flowy' LPS (bubbles, pearls, torch, galaxea, frogspawn, hammer etc).

Any other ideas for interesting inverts?? Maybe one I haven't come across?

Im trying to avoid ugly snails, will the lettuce nudi be enough of a grazer to avoid putting snails in?

Thanks for the input guys!

Oh yeah!! I completely forgot them, I had been planning on putting 3-4 in. Do you know if they will host a tube anemone? Im planning on one of those too.

I don't have any experience with tube anemones so I don't know. From what little I've read I think the tube anemones pack quite a sting and will eat even clownfish so I doubt it.

I know sexy shrimp will host in most corals (polyps, lps) if an anemone is not present. The last time I had them at the store they hosted in a bubble coral(plerogyra).

Christina,

Let me know if you need some astrea stars for your Harlequin. I'd be happy to let you have as many of them as you want.

Asterina stars are good but not enough to satisfy their appetite. I remember when i bought my pair (R.I.P :cry) I threw in like 20 asterinas in the bucket where they were acclimating..They were gone in 30 minutes..lol, they where like cookies to them..so i'd suggest a chocolate chip star every week...

You don't know how many asterinas I have :) I see about 50 every AM when the lights come on in each of my tanks and that's just what I can see.

Besides, I would bet the shrimp hadn't been fed while they were being held at the wholesaler and in transit. They were bingeing.

Before I got to get the pair, i decided to fill my tank with asterinas, so they had a source of food. Well, my theory didnt work..like i said, they ate them like cookies and finished ALL the asterinas in the tank, I had tons of them, i would take dozens of them out of my 90 and throw them in the 25..Its kind of like mandarins and pods..if you dont have a constant source of food they will die. And believe me, they can spend all day eating asterinas until they finish them all..then what?

Tube anemones get a tentacle spread of about a foot when they open all the way, after they are dug in to a deep hole in the sand bed. They also put out a lot of slime and thats all you could keep in a 6 gallon tank. They are not nano sized things. They will foul your filter and intake/overflow in that little tank and you will probably quickly end up with a dead tube anemone and messy tank that will be difficult to clean. Best to go for anything else other than one of those. Very unlikely host for a sexy shrimp and they pack a harsh sting to crabs and corals.

Thanks Larry! Ive been reading and reading on them and no one has mentioned size yet. It seems to be one of those creatures that no one is sure on yet. Some people say they are filter feeders yet in the same article mention that they may kill fish and will accept suplemental feedings...which is contradictory to being a filter feeder. Some articles have said they are completely safe though. Maybe I can talk Brian into putting one in a bowl of sand in our frag tank...now not only do I want one b/c they are pretty but my curiosity is peaked and the only way to discover the truth about these interesting little creatures.

According to what Reef69 says, it sounds like I would only be providing snacks, but you are more then welcome to them.

Some snails are not so ugly I asked luis to bring me in some Pacific Nerite AKA candy snails. Very nice coloration on shells and they only get 1/2 in size very good for nano.round smooth shell with lots of different colors.

...or some bumble bee snails, black and yellow striped. They look like cerith or nassarius (the small, 3/16" shells) snails but move a lot more slowly.

Both good suggestions. The nerites are an option, Ive heard that bumble bees can go predator on other stuff in the tank though. What I really want are these

Haminoea cymbalum...if anyone knows where to get them...I cant find them anywhere. Liveaquaria used to have some but not anymore.
