I'm thinking about buying a sedra pump with the cool little needle wheel and make some modifications to my Kent EX. Basically remove the venturi and just run the sedra with needle valve through it. This seems to be the key to this skimmer in the first place.

What ya think?

Exactly and all the pump is doing is adding bubbles .... the more the merrier!!

Actually I was going to try to add the Sedra 9000 with the needle wheel and leave the venturi in first. If that didn't work out with or without the airhose blocked off then I'd go in and remove the venturi. I think I'll play with it a little.

Actually I was talking about the existing venturi in the Kent after the pump at that point. Leave it in and if it doesn't work then go ahead and remove it with straight pipe.

Just an update, I got home today and remembered that the pump I'm using for the Kent EX is a SEN 1200 and the outlet has a hose connection for mixing air with the outlet. Not the same as a needle wheel since they don't get chopped up just sprayed out. I figured what the heck, let's see what happens when I pump a mixture of water and air through a kent veturi that is already drawing air in. Man is this thing putting out some massive amounts of tiny bubbles now with the two together. I imagine that the venturi is just tearing up the air/water mixture that is being passed through it from the pump like crazy along with mixing with more air coming in the venturi itself.

Don't really think I'd need the needle wheel pump now but may want to experiment just for fun. ;)
