I know this is probably going to get ridaculed, but I thought I would post it anyway......That is why this site is here!!! Right!!! to learn.

Anyway, I have this new clam......really cool and I dig it.
I thought I would just sit this guy in the sand like they have in the fish stores. My other clam next to it is sitting on rocks and it stays put.

This new clam keeps leaning over. It seems to burrow on one side and wants to lean over to one side. Almost laying on its side.
I just set this guy up right side when I got home tonight and 2 hours later, its already leaning. Should I just put it on rocks like its counterpart??

Okay, the lauging and ridacule may begin!!
But someone answer my question....

I told you ... DON'T DOSE VODKA!

Mine do it too, they squirt water out their "Clam Butts" to burrow into the sand and, well ... not all butts are created equal :P

It's trying to find something to attach to. It would do better up on a rock. Pet shops put them on the sand because they are a PITA to get off a rock without injuring them.

If you want it where it is a, just get a piece of shelf rock and set it on it so it can attach and be happy.

Okay.....I broke down and put him on a small flat rock.
Hopefully he likes it........
I really didnt think that there would be a logical answer to that post, glad to know there was!!! Thanks Richard and Stev

Most of mine like the rocks and anchor within 24 hours, but I have a few that do nothing but jump off the rocks, so they are now "Sand Clams" :P

Hey Mike, if you want the clam to be on the sand use a flat rock or shell to set the clam in, then bury the rock in the sand. This gives your new clam a place to attach his foot to.

I just nestle mine into a PVC union that I bury in the sand.

You can also place these clams in a clam halfshell to let them attach. I sit all mine in a halfshell so if and when I need to check them, move them whatever I can do it without them being attached and needing to get the byssals the release.

It's a crocea clam so it should like it best in the rocks. Strangely I have seen them with lopsided shells.

The clam shell gives them a bit of a cup to sit in and works most of the times. Usually when they keep bailing they are not happy in that position. Is the clam in too much flow?? Sometimes that'll kake them jump. Anything harassing the clam??

Hang in there...
